Pori Festival
The Pori festival is celebrated in the Lahaul valley of Himachal Pardesh at the temple of Trilokinath. The statue of the lord is bathed in the morning with milk and yogurt and then later on devotees go round the temple beating drums and blowing conch shells. A horse is also soaked in sweets after the ritual as it is believed that god sits on his back. The horse is given a grand welcome at the palace of the local ruler. The king gets the privilege of riding the horse and taking a round of the mela ground which is dotted with small shops. A butter lamp burns within the temple on this day where the devotees add in more butter to keep it burning all night long.
